As Chinese economic take-off is drawing worldwide attention, Chinese culture is also gaining popularity around the world.
Chinese culture has sparked world interest. For instance, China’s total export and import of cultural products have been increasing in recent years. Cultural exchanges such as Chinese New Year in countries including France, Russia, Italy, and the United States have attracted growing interest. Chinese culture’s popularity can also be proven by the growing number of participants in the UN Chinese Language Program, which offers face-to-face and blended courses, and cultural events for non-native Chinese speakers.
The rise of China as a global economic powerhouse has led to a surge (激增) in Chinese language learning worldwide. Some transnational enterprises have made the ability to speak Chinese a priority in staff recruitment (招聘), reflecting the growing popularity of Chinese language in the world. And a growing number of international students choose to study in China. International students learn Chinese language both as a communication tool and as a carrier of Chinese culture. By sharing what they have learned with family and friends, they play a role in introducing real China to the world.
China is taking to the world stage an image of a major cultural power. But the re is still lots to do. Promoting Chinese culture, enhancing cultural soft power, and fulfilling cultural confidence depend on our continuous joint efforts.
